Special Education Advisory – Parents and the Common Core

The P-12: Office of Special Education has developed resources to assist parents of children with disabilities to have a better understanding of the Common Core Learning Standards and how the child’s individualized education program (IEP) should include recommendations to support their child’s progress towards those standards.  These resources also include a set of questions that parents can bring to the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and to their child’s teachers.  The memorandum is available at http://www.p12.nysed.gov/specialed/commoncore/instructionCCLS-parents-614.htm.
The Department is in the process of having this document translated into multiple languages and they will be available at this site when completed.
