Families Helping Families
by Naflan Doole
Families Helping Families (FHF) is a resource and recreational center. They host an annual New Year’s Eve, Eve Party for special needs children. This year it was held at The Hilton Garden Inn. The purpose of the event was to celebrate the spirit of the Holiday Season by helping families relax and enjoy the party while volunteers provide support for their special needs children. I wanted to volunteer not for the community service hours but to experience something new. It was a lot of work but the feeling you receive at the end was worth it. I had the privilege of meeting Nicolas a young boy I took care of as well as his two younger cousins. We danced, played games, ate food, and won prizes. At the end of the event I was able to make new friends and beautiful memories. This is an experience that many people should take part in. Families Helping Families helped me realize as a future senator I need to keep helping people no matter how small or big they may be because everyone matters.
